Duration: 2 weeks | 2 days per week | 7 hours per day (28 hours total)
Format: In-person, hands-on training using a digital mixing desk and live venue PA system.
Outcome: Practical skills to begin freelance work or progress to further study (e.g., degree-level courses).
Course Overview
This course is designed to create a supportive and practical learning environment for women entering live sound engineering. Participants will learn from the ground up using a professional digital mixing console and real-world workflows. The course concludes with participants engineering a live band at a venue under supervision. Ideal for: Beginners to early intermediates (no prior experience required).
Learning Goals
· Safely set up and operate a small-to-mid live PA system.
· Patch microphones and DIs correctly and manage gain structure.
· Navigate a digital mixing desk (routing, channels, buses, FX, DCAs/VCAs, matrices).
· Build and manage monitor mixes (wedges and basic IEM workflows).
· Apply EQ, compression, gates, and effects with purpose.
· Run efficient soundchecks and mix a live show confidently.
· Create and manage show files and scenes.
· Understand freelance basics including rates, etiquette, and advancing.
